The children really enjoyed him and we all loved his energy and smile. He also had attended one of the letter stuffing parties and thanked The Letters from Home Program personally for the countless hours of volunteers behind the program to make sure our troops are remembered. Marv will be sadly missed by the Letters from Home Program and all the lives he touched.
Christine Jovenitti and Staff Sergeant Marvin Goodnoe - 2006 picture Staff Sergeant Marvin Goodnoe of the Kane Pennsylvania National Guard Detachment 1, Company B, 728 MSB, 28th Infantry Division had been in the military since 1980. He was sent to Germany in July 2002 and returned in March 2003. He received the Bronze Star medal in October 2004 for his service between Feb. 23 and Dec. 31, 2004 in Iraq. Reasons for receiving the medal, as stated on the citation included his exceptional service as squad leader during hostile times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Further narrative with the citation commended Goodnoe for his training of soldiers for combat upon arrival at the 35th Brigade Kuwait. His actions enabled the 1452D to attain a high state of readiness prior to convoy operations into Iraq. This non-commissioned officer performed with distinction as convoy commander and NCOIC for a period of seven months. He supervised 19 soldiers and 10 HET systems, and completed more than 150 missions and traveled more than 110, 000 miles receiving enemy contact on 11 different occasions. They were ambushed four times, attacked by IED's and rocket propelled grenades and sporadic small arms fire six times and lost one HET trailer to an anti-tank mine. Goodnoe and his team responded with courage and bravery and pushed forward to the next mission without complaint. Goodnoe also volunteered for a high profile mission to recover a HET system that was destroyed. The mission was a success. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ In memory of Edward Louis Rigard - US.
